Cabaret and a Naklua seafood dinner

Pattaya's cabaret shows are the town's oldest respectable attraction and its best-value hour: seventy minutes, forty performers, a live set change every four minutes, and no age limit. Then dinner on the water at Naklua.

Which show

Two matter: Alcazar, running since 1981 and the more polished production, and Tiffany's, which is bigger, older and hosts the Miss Tiffany pageant every year. Both are lip-synced, both are family-friendly, both run about seventy minutes with an interval, and both seat you by ticket tier rather than by arrival order. We book Alcazar by default and Tiffany's on request.

What people do not expect: the production values. This is not a bar act. There are five sets, a dozen costume changes, and a closing number that fills the stage. Children are genuinely welcome, which is not something you can say about most of Pattaya after dark.

Dinner at Naklua

Then north to Naklua, the fishing village that Pattaya grew around, where the seafood restaurants sit on piles over the water and the fish is priced by weight from a tank. We order for you — steamed grouper with lime, river prawns, crab fried rice — and the bill is settled by us, so there is no menu arithmetic at the end.

The rest of Pattaya

We do not go to Walking Street. If you want it, it is a ten-minute walk from the restaurant and you can go after we drop you; the transfer is one-way and that is deliberate.

Questions

Before you book

Is the cabaret suitable for children?

Yes. It is a song-and-dance revue with elaborate costumes and no adult content. Children are common in the audience and the shows are timed to finish before nine.

Alcazar or Tiffany's?

Alcazar is tighter and more choreographed; Tiffany's is larger with a bigger stage and the pageant heritage. If you have seen neither, Alcazar. If you have seen one, see the other.

Can you cater for a seafood allergy?

Yes, and we take it seriously — the restaurant is told when we book and the order is changed rather than adjusted. Tell us at booking, not on the night.

What are the seats like?

Middle tier is the sensible buy: raised, central, close enough to see faces. The front row is the cheapest and you spend the show looking up.

Check your seats.

Tell us the evening and how many of you — the good seats close a week out in high season.
