Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam tours

One region, three countries, and a border crossing that most itineraries make harder than it is. We run these through our own offices in Bangkok, Siem Reap and Hanoi, so the handover between countries is a person, not a voucher.

The routes

Three that work

Thailand & Cambodia, 12 days

Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Siem Reap, and a beach at the end. The border at Aranyaprathet is the ugly part of this route — we use the flight instead, which costs $95 and saves four hours of queueing and a scam or two.

Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam, 15 days

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Siem Reap, Hanoi, Halong Bay. Three flights. This is the version most people mean when they say Indochina, and it is a lot of movement — we build in two free days.

Thailand & Laos, 14 days

Bangkok, Chiang Rai, the Mekong slow boat to Luang Prabang, and back through Vientiane. The slow boat is two days and it is the point of the trip. Not for anyone who needs a schedule.

What changes at a border

Visas, currency, SIM cards, and the fact that your guide does not cross with you. We hand you to a guide on the other side, with the new documents ready. That handover is the whole value of booking a multi-country route through one operator.

Visas

Thailand is visa-exempt for most Western passports for 60 days. Cambodia and Laos issue e-visas online in about three days. Vietnam needs an e-visa arranged 2–3 weeks ahead. We prompt you at the right moment rather than leave it to the week before.

Honest advice

Two countries is usually better than three

Every country you add costs you a flight day, a border day and a settling-in day. Three countries in fourteen days is a slideshow; two in fourteen is a trip. If it is your first time in the region, pick Thailand plus one.

And if you only have ten days, do not leave Thailand at all. The north and the islands are two different countries already.

Do we need separate visas?

Yes, one per country. We list exactly what to apply for, when, and what it costs, at booking.

Is the border crossing difficult?

The Poipet crossing between Thailand and Cambodia is genuinely unpleasant. We fly instead where the schedule allows. The Laos crossing at Chiang Khong is calm.

Does the same guide stay with us?

No — each country has its own licensed guides, which is a legal requirement. We introduce the next guide a day early so the handover is warm.

Can we do this with children?

From about ten, yes. Below that, two countries maximum and fewer internal flights.

How many countries, how many days?

We will tell you honestly if the combination fits the time you have.
