Grand Palace & Wat Pho, before the crowds

Three temples, one river crossing, and a 07:45 start that decides whether you see the Grand Palace or a queue of four hundred people. This is the half day we run most often, and the one where timing matters more than the guide.

Why 07:45 and not 09:00

The Grand Palace opens at 08:30. By 09:30 four or five coach groups have arrived and the queue for the Emerald Buddha hall runs across the courtyard in the sun. Ninety minutes earlier it is the same building with a tenth of the people, and the light on the golden spires is coming from the right direction.

We do the palace first, then walk ten minutes to Wat Pho for the reclining Buddha, then cross the river by longtail to Wat Arun. The boat is not a tour — it is the fastest way between the two banks, and it is the part most people remember.

What we handle

Dress code is enforced at the palace: shoulders and knees covered, no sarongs over shorts. We carry wraps. Tickets for all three sites are prepaid, so nobody stands in a second queue. And your guide knows which exit to use when a royal ceremony closes a wing — that happens more often than the websites say.

Questions

Before you book

Is the Grand Palace open every day?

Almost always, but it closes for royal ceremonies with little notice. We check the morning of your tour and reorder the day if needed — you will not lose a stop.

How much walking is it?

About 3 km over four hours, mostly flat, in heat. There is shade at Wat Pho and none at the palace courtyard.

Can we start later?

You can, and we will — but expect crowds and a shorter visit. After 10:00 we usually suggest swapping to Wat Arun and Wat Pho and leaving the palace for another morning.

Check your date.

Tell us the day and how many of you — we confirm availability, the boat and the price.
