Alcazar cabaret show

Seventy-five minutes of costumes, choreography and stage craft that is far better produced than its reputation suggests. Two shows a night, centre seats worth the extra few dollars.

A theatre, not a bar

Alcazar has been running since 1981 in a purpose-built theatre on Second Road. It is family-friendly, entirely sober, and about as far from the Walking Street image of Pattaya as the town gets. Audience is a mix of Thai families, Indian tour groups, Chinese package tours and Europeans.

The shows are lip-synced to a soundtrack and built around costume changes — think Las Vegas revue rather than live singing. Judged on that basis it is genuinely good: the sets are large, the dancers are trained, and the 75 minutes move quickly.

Which show, which seat

The 18:30 show is quieter and lets you eat afterwards at a normal hour; the 20:00 show is fuller and finishes around 21:20. Centre stalls seats cost a few dollars more and are worth it — the side sections are angled and you lose some of the stage depth. Avoid the back five rows if you can; the theatre is wide and it is a long way from the action.

The photo question

Photography during the show is not allowed. After the performance, performers come outside for photos with guests — this is normal and expected, and they appreciate a tip of ฿100 per photo. It is not a scam, but it is also not free.

Getting there

Alcazar is on Second Road, a 10-minute walk from Beach Road. If you are staying in Jomtien, allow 20 minutes by car. We can add a return transfer for $18 within Pattaya.

Honest notes

Is it appropriate for children?

Yes. It is a costume revue with pop songs and dance numbers; there is nothing adult in the content. Thai families attend, and children generally enjoy it. The only caveat is volume — it is loud, and the front rows are very loud.

If you have seen cabaret before in Bangkok or Phuket, this is the largest and most polished of them. If you have not, it is a reasonable introduction and a good rainy-evening plan.

How early should I arrive?

Twenty minutes before. Seating is by zone rather than exact seat on some tickets, so arriving early gets you a better position within your zone.

Can I take photos during the show?

No, and staff will stop you. Photos with performers after the show are fine and expected, with a ฿100 tip per photo.

Is it worth the VIP seats?

VIP is the first six rows, which is close enough that you see the costume detail but also close enough to the speakers. Deluxe centre is the better balance.

Can I combine it with dinner?

Yes — the 18:30 show ends around 19:45, leaving time for seafood in Naklua. We can book both and add the car.
